Our support services and programs at the Queensland Children’s Hospital will be strengthened, thanks to a $1 million donation from the Miles Government.

Minister for Health, Mental Health and Ambulance Services and Minister for Women Shannon Fentiman announced the funding at our Queensland Children’s Hospital 10th Birthday Long Lunch yesterday – kick-starting celebrations for the milestone event this November.

The $1 million commitment is in addition to the Queensland Government’s $1.5 million annual contribution to the Children’s Hospital Foundation, bringing their total investment in FY2024-25 to $2.5 million.

Improving the hospital experience for patients and families

Children’s Hospital Foundation is the proud philanthropic arm of the Queensland Children’s Hospital and Children’s Health Queensland across the state.

Over the past decade, we have invested more than $110 million into advancements in paediatric healthcare, from world-leading research to cutting-edge equipment and vital support programs within the hospital environment.

Children’s Hospital Foundation CEO, Lyndsey Rice could not be more grateful for the Queensland Government’s ongoing support of our impact initiatives.

“Our support services and programs are the heart of our mission and touch thousands of families at the Queensland Children’s Hospital each year, providing unparalleled psychosocial support in critical and challenging moments,” Ms Rice said.

“Yesterday’s commitment from the Miles Government strengthens our ability in continuing to meet the emotional needs of Queensland’s sickest kids and their families with compassion and kindness.”

With a focus on whole-person care, we improve the hospital experience for patients and families through services and programs, such as emergency supplies and free meals for families to entertainment, events and a Book Bunker that ensure sick kids can still act, think and feel like kids in hospital.

Each year, there are around 120,000 interactions between our programs and sick children during their hospital visit.

A long legacy of support for sick kids

The investment from the Miles Government strengthens the Queensland Government’s long legacy of improving the lives of Queensland children and young people.

Across the years, the Children’s Hospital Foundation’s partnership with the Queensland Government has seen the co-funding of a $5 million digital PET-CT scanner at Queensland Children’s Hospital in 2020 – the first paediatric hospital in Australia to offer the technology.

Through this partnership, we have also significantly invested into an innovative mental health platform for children and young people and provided support for bereaved Queensland families who face the unimaginable loss of a child.

“We are incredibly grateful for the Queensland Government’s ongoing partnership to ensure every child in Queensland can access world-class care, right here in Queensland,” Ms Rice added.
