Children’s Hospital Foundation celebrates 40 years of life-changing impact for Queensland’s sickest kids

At the Children’s Hospital Foundation, we know just how much impact 40 years of care can have on the lives of Queensland’s sickest and most critically injured children. That’s why, to mark our 40th birthday, we’re calling on Queenslanders to give $40 this July – honouring four decades of life-changing care for sick kids.

Whether it’s $40 or $4, every donation helps fund lifesaving research, vital equipment and the comfort and connection that makes hospital feel more like home.

A legacy of care, 40 years strong

Since 1985, the Children’s Hospital Foundation has invested more than $256 million in cutting-edge equipment, world-leading research and clinical programs, transforming paediatric care across Queensland and Northern New South Wales.

From our beginnings at the Royal Children’s Hospital in Herston to becoming the philanthropic partner of the world-class Queensland Children’s Hospital, our mission has remained constant: to care for sick Queensland children who need it most.

Over the past decade, the Foundation has delivered more than 120,000 moments of care each year – that’s over one million moments of comfort, connection, and support. In 2024 alone, Queensland Children’s Hospital recorded over 45,000 inpatient admissions and more than 278,000 outpatient appointments, and the demand for our services continues to grow year on year.

Children’s Hospital Foundation CEO Lyndsey Rice said this milestone moment is a time for reflection and appreciation.

“Queensland has seen many changes over the past 40 years, but the Foundation’s commitment to sick and injured kids has stood the test of time.

“Children’s Hospital Foundation was founded on a promise to care for Queensland kids – and that remains at the heart of everything we do,” Ms Rice said.

Shaping the next 40 years of care

As we look to tomorrow, Children’s Hospital Foundation will continue to meet challenges head-on and match the ambitions of our world-class hospital with determination.

With the support of our generous community, we can fight for a future where no child is defined or limited by their illness, injury or condition.

This July, donations will support critical services like distraction therapy, music therapy, bedside libraries, toy drives, and more – creating moments of joy, comfort, and connection that help hospital feel more like home for sick kids.
