Almost 4,000 children will receive life-saving care at Queensland Children’s Hospital this December. Their wishes are not for toys or games – their wishes are for comfort, for answers and for more time.

The power of giving

More and more Australians are donating to charity for Christmas than buying gifts – a powerful shift showing that generosity, not consumerism, is defining 2025’s festive season.

Recent reports from McCrindle and Integrity reveals two in three Australians plan to give to charity this Christmas, while one in three are actively cutting back on gifts in favour of donations. In fact, 80% of Australians say giving to others feels more meaningful than receiving gifts.

By donating to Children’s Hospital Foundation this Christmas, Australians can make a real difference while meeting their charitable needs. Just one donation allows you to be part of something bigger this festive season:

  • $56 can help provide a Christmas activity pack to entertain children in hospital over the festive period
  • $75 can contribute towards essential costs for families whose child is in hospital over Christmas
  • $97 can help a family have a special photo opportunity with Santa in hospital.

And there’s other ways to make a difference. For those unable to make direct donations or a looking for extra ways to help, you can show your support through:

  • Picking up a roll of charity wrapping paper or a Heart Token, designed by kids in hospital, from any BIG W store statewide
  • Adding a donation when purchasing food or drinks at any ALH Hotels venue across Queensland
  • Staying at Rydges South Bank for an end of year holiday or staycation, where every breakfast in December includes a $1 donation to the Children’s Hospital Foundation
  • Purchasing a $2 Wish Tag from one of our retail partners  Rydges South Bank, MOBO Co or The Prop House – to hang on your tree.

Helping hospital feel more like home

Of the almost 4,000 children who will receive life-saving care at Queensland Children’s Hospital this December, one in three will travel from regional or remote areas to receive it.

With the help of the Foundation and its supporters, these families will still be able to experience a taste of Christmas at home.

“When kids are isolated from loved ones and kilometres from home, your donation to Children’s Hospital Foundation helps turn hospital into a place of joy and hope,” said Lyndsey Rice, Children’s Hospital Foundation CEO.

“This Christmas, Queenslanders have an extraordinary chance to transform wishes into real moments of comfort – proving that true giving is the heart of the holiday season.”
