The Lott by Golden Casket has strengthened their commitment to supporting sick Queensland children, announcing a generous $1.5 million donation to the Children’s Hospital Foundation.
The Lott’s announcement played out live on-air with Nine’s TODAY Show Weather Presenter Tim Davies to help kick-off the 10-day countdown to the Queensland Children’s Hospital’s 10th Birthday.
Funds will support world-leading research at the Children’s Brain Cancer Centre and provide wrap-around programs to help with recovery and health outcomes – fuelling the next decade of world-class care.
A long history of support
The Lott by Golden Casket is a proud supporter of the Queensland Children’s Hospital in partnership with the Children’s Hospital Foundation.
More than an estimated $13 million has been contributed through state lottery taxes and Golden Casket unclaimed prize money since the hospital first opened in November 2014.
But their connection to Queensland Children’s Hospital dates back even further, when a single specialist paediatric hospital was just a concept for Queenslanders.
In 2007, it was proceeds from an announcement for Tattersall’s to manage Golden Casket and to operate lotteries that provided the initial funding to help build Queensland Children’s Hospital.
“Making a positive impact for our communities is in our DNA here at The Lott by Golden Casket,” said The Lott Chief Customer & Marketing Officer Andrew Shepherd.
“We are incredibly proud that our origins are so deeply rooted in the world-class care that critically sick and injured children receive at Queensland Children’s Hospital each day.”
Changing outcomes for our state’s sickest children
Over the years, The Lott by Golden Casket’s support of the Children’s Hospital Foundation has seen significant investment into paediatric brain cancer research.
In 2019, it was $500,000 from unclaimed Golden Casket prize money that started the Children’s Brain Cancer Centre – Australia’s first research initiative dedicated to improving the treatment and survivorship of children with brain cancer.
Today, The Lott has contributed over $3 million to the Children’s Brain Cancer Centre.
Their support has also allowed the Children’s Hospital Foundation to continue to grow and invest in our impact programs and services at the Queensland Children’s Hospital. Every year, these programs see around 120,000 interactions with patients and families during hospital visits and stays.
Children’s Hospital Foundation CEO, Lyndsey Rice is grateful for The Lott by Golden Casket’s support of the Foundation to help mark the Queensland Children’s Hospital’s 10th birthday.
“Queenslanders are so lucky to have this world-leading hospital in our state for our children – a hospital that has been there for every child, every time, no matter where they are from in Queensland,” Ms Rice said.
“It is supporters like The Lott by Golden Casket that help us continue to look further, dream bigger and be the difference that matters for our state’s sickest and most critically injured children.”
With more than $114 million invested in cutting-edge equipment, world-leading research and clinical programs, the Children’s Hospital Foundation has paved the way for life changing care at the Queensland Children’s Hospital over the past 10 years.
