There’s a new battle of Brisbane in town – but this time, it’s mascot versus mascot. Introducing our first ever Children’s Hospital Foundation Mascot Games.
The news is out! Nine of Queensland’s most beloved mascots across six sporting codes will go head-to-head for the Children’s Hospital Foundation Mascot Games for our inaugural Sick Kids Giving Day on Thursday 8 June.
Starting with an opening ceremony torch relay, mascots will take part in a series of mini-games at the Queensland Children’s Hospital, with only one taking home the coveted Mascot Games champion title.
Children’s Hospital Foundation CEO, Lyndsey Rice is thrilled to see this first-of-its-kind event make a resounding impact on the lives of sick Queensland kids.
“We are so proud of the role that the Foundation has played to support the Queensland Children’s Hospital’s incredible reputation, through funding cutting-edge equipment, vital research and on the ground support,” Ms Rice said.
“With players and mascots attending from some of Queensland’s favourite sporting teams, what better way to create an unforgettable morning for patients, staff and families of the Queensland Children’s Hospital than through this mini-games, with a twist.”
To sound the starting siren, we invited our partners at Nine News Queensland to the Queensland Children’s Hospital for a sneak peek of what’s to come. Here’s the result.
This year’s Mascot Games will take place on the Children’s Hospital Foundation’s Sick Kids Giving Day, with every single donation on Thursday 8 June matched by generous supporters to help even more sick and injured children across the state.
Funds raised will help kids like seven-year-old Mahalia, who was diagnosed with a complex chromosome condition at just 12 weeks old.
Mahalia has spent majority of her short life in and out of hospital, but according to her mum, Kristie: “We have created an amazing team that supports Mahalia, which feels more like family some days than professionals. This team, including the Children’s Hospital Foundation, surrounds us and helps us through the hard days.”
