Two-time Australian GT Champion and Children’s Hospital Foundation ambassador, Liam Talbot has taken philanthropy up a gear, announcing a monumental $500,000 donation to the Foundation on behalf of himself and his late father, Ken Talbot – surprising a group of patients and their families to the ultimate trackside experience.
Upon arrival at Willowbank, young patients and their families were given an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of the garage by Liam and his crew – inspiring a new group of young racers and adrenaline seekers.
Shifting gears, attendees were then given a front row seat to watch Liam in all his glory, wowing the group with his practice laps in his signature Aston Martin and giving young speedsters some much-needed reprieve from being in hospital.
Following all the action, patients and their families then caught up with Liam for a one-on-one meet and greet, Q&A session and autograph signing before checking out his Aston Martin.
Parents who joined the excursion said the experience was more than just a fun day out, it was a powerful reminder of what childhood should feel like – adventurous, inspiring and full of possibility.
Driven by heart, not just horsepower
Talbot is raising funds and awareness to support the Foundation’s work, fuelling vital initiatives like bedside play, brain tumour research, emergency care kits, music therapy and cuddle care for Queensland’s sickest and most critically injured children.
“This additional donation comes from my family’s heart, reflecting my drive to make sure every child has every chance to thrive,” Talbot said.
“Hosting and speaking with the kids and families who attended the special trackside experience today, it was clear just how much these small moments of joy and distraction mean during what is an overwhelming and often isolating time for families.”
“I’m honoured to play a part in the Foundations story to bolster their mission, because no child should face their healthcare journey alone,” he added.
Going full throttle on community impact, one lap at a time
As the proud philanthropic partner of Children’s Health Queensland and Queensland Children’s Hospital, the Foundation helps make a difference for every kid from the Cape to the Tweed and the Northern Territory, with one in three patients coming from outside Greater Brisbane.
Children’s Hospital Foundation CEO Lyndsey Rice commended Talbot’s deep commitment to the cause, acknowledging its ability to propel widespread advancements.
“Liam Talbot has given so much, his time, his heart and an extraordinary $500,000 donation to help the Foundation continue to deliver catalytic funding that supports the needs of Children’s Health Queensland and sick kids and their families across the state,” Ms Rice said.
“The joy he’s brought through this specially hosted trackside experience today is unforgettable.
“We urge everyone to get onboard with Liam’s fundraising campaign this year and donate. With over 371,000 children accessing both inpatient and outpatient care in 2024 , the need for donations is ever-present,” she added.
