Philanthropy

Since our inception in 1985, philanthropy has remained at the heart of the Children’s Hospital Foundation.

In the 1800s, Queensland was no place for a sick or injured child. There was no paediatric hospital, and children under five were not allowed admissions to the general hospital.

The determination of one person, Mary McConnel, inspired a community to raise the bar in the care of kids with all illnesses, injuries and conditions. With the support of local business and a devoted committee, the first paediatric hospital in Brisbane opened in 1878.

The role of philanthropy today

Today, Children’s Hospital Foundation is the proud philanthropic arm of Children’s Health Queensland and the Queensland Children’s Hospital – playing an important part in what has become one of the world’s best paediatric hospitals.

With over 278,000 outpatient appointments and 45,000 inpatient admissions annually, the Queensland Children’s Hospital is essential to providing the best possible care to our children and their families.

With new challenges every day, and more and more children requiring paediatric care, philanthropic support is more important than ever.
