Every child facing cancer deserves a fighting chance – and during this year’s Magic Round (15 May – 17 May), the NRL community is uniting like never before with Kick for a Cause.

The NRL is bringing fans, clubs and hospitals together nationwide to raise $1 million for childhood cancer, teaming up with the Australian Rugby League Commission and Youi Insurance — who have pledged $1,000 for every successful try conversion and double the donation for any successful field goals during Magic Round 2026.

Funds will be distributed to 11 paediatric cancer centres across Australia and New Zealand – including Children’s Hospital Foundation – and will go towards:

  • Groundbreaking cancer research and clinical trials
  • Specialist clinical care and treatment programs
  • Wellbeing and support programs for children and families
  • Initiatives that bring comfort and joy to kids during treatment.

Over the last 40 years, Children’s Hospital Foundation has funded vital research, care and equipment to help young cancer patients and continues to drive major multiyear investments that accelerate breakthroughs in paediatric health.

This includes landmark commitments such as $5 million for the Children’s Brain Cancer Centre and $7.5 million for the Ian Frazer Centre for Children’s Immunotherapy Research – initiatives that turn fear into hope and give children more time with family, at school and in their communities.

Raising a legacy of hope

Every year, more than 1,100 children and teens are diagnosed with cancer across Australia and New Zealand. That’s three kids every single day.

One of these children was Beau.

In early 2024, Beau’s parents noticed he was losing weight fast. Weeks went by without answers, and then, suddenly, Beau could not catch his breath. Within hours, he was admitted to hospital, and scans revealed a devastating diagnosis: cancer.

Throughout treatment, Beau held onto two wishes: to ring the bell to mark the end of his cancer and to drive a movement for kids like him.

While Beau sadly passed away, his legacy of hope continues. Unbeknownst to his family until after his passing, Beau created a “cure for cancer” page on social media, calling for donations to help as many kids with cancer as possible.

The inaugural Kick for a Cause honours Beau’s courage and final wishes – helping fund the research and care every kid deserves.

Every kick, every cheer and every donation counts. Let’s give kids’ cancer the boot. Donate today
