Woolworths Supermarkets’ annual Easter Appeal brought something sweeter than chocolate bunnies and Easter eggs, raising an incredible $239,024 for Children’s Hospital Foundation.

From 11 March – 7 April, Woolworths stores across Queensland and northern New South Wales turned a weekly grocery shop into an opportunity to support sick Queensland children through encouraging customers to purchase a $2 token or making a donation at checkout.

That generosity extended beyond fundraising. Over the Easter long weekend, Woolworths also delivered a special hot cross bun surprise to young patients and families staying at Queensland Children’s Hospital, helping to bring moments of joy during an otherwise difficult time.

All funds raised helps fund ground-breaking research, world-class equipment and wrap-around support programs for sick kids and families at Queensland Children’s Hospital.

One of these kids is Ollie.

Diagnosed at 13 weeks’ gestation, Ollie lives with multiple congenital heart defects. He was two hours old when he underwent his first major heart procedure – a balloon septostomy to provide blood and flow and improve oxygenation.

Shortly before his third birthday, Ollie underwent Nikaidoh surgery to reposition his heart’s main arteries to ensure correct blood flow. This major surgery was also a major turning point, allowing him to avoid a future heart transplant and grow into the inspiring young boy he is today.

Throughout it all, Children’s Hospital Foundation was able to provide additional care and support, helping to make the hard days a little lighter – all thanks to the generosity of the Queensland community and partners like Woolworths.

While Ollie’s journey isn’t over, the Easter Appeal’s fundraising efforts will allow us to continue our vital mission and help the thousands of kids seeking treatment at Queensland Children’s Hospital.

A legacy of giving

For 40 years, Woolworths has partnered with Children’s Hospital Foundation to be the difference every kid deserves. Their commitment continues, with Woolworths set to raise even more funds for sick kids through their support of the Foundation through their Small Change Appeal later this year.

Nationwide, the Easter Appeal raised $1.26 million, helping children’s charities deliver meaningful support when it is needed most.
